A Visit from the Mkoko boys!

Today was a day full unexpected surprises and wonderful laughs. Having come back after an amazing three days at Kruger National Park, many of us woke up after nine to ten hours of sleep after our five hour nights at the safari park (our safaris started a bit early, so we didn’t get as much seep as we wanted to), which was amazing. It’s good to be back home in Ezulwini – although many of us are missing the awesome elephants, lions, impala, giraffes and buffalo back at Kruger! We started off the day with an amazing breakfast and then a global health lecture on TB in the South African mining industry. As we all dispersed for lunch, I sat down to work at my computer and heard a knock outside. To our pleasant surprise, the Mkoko boys came for a weekend visit! We immediately celebrated, said our hellos and soon after, began a tour of the grounds. Zola (the 11-year-old) loves swimming, and he agreed to swim while we all had our afternoon class. As soon as we got out, Jared and I went to go check on the boys while the rest started looking for a movie showing times at the local shopping center. Since the movie wasn’t going to start until 5, we decided to go for a quick bite to eat at the corner shopping center where the boys ate hake and fish and some of us bought some snacks for the week. As soon as we got back, we found Jonathan and Allen outside the entrance of our lodge – and therefore tried our hardest to convince them to come (we might have added Zola as our convincer J). Thankfully, they agreed and we all headed out in a packed combi! It was an exciting journey over to Gables because of this special occasion – before tonight, the Mkoko boys had never been to a theater! We ended up choosing X-Men as our movie and it was an AMAZING choice (I had never seen an X-Men movie and it was like one of the best movies I have ever seen!) Even better, the boys loved it, especially because it was a 3D. We all soon rode over and had a wonderful dinner. Soon, we realized it was time to watch the game – almost all of us have been watching the World Cup religiously – between Ghana and Germany (which was a great one if you didn’t watch it!!). And now, I am just sitting in my room thinking of how great these past three weeks have been. It is today in fact that we complete three weeks of adventure, awesome learning and so many great times. Thanks for following along so far – cheers!
