Roger Federer suffers his fastest defeat in 16 years at the Cincinnati Masters

(CNN) — Roger Federer has suffered his quickest defeat in 16 years after crashing from the Cincinnati Masters Thursday.
The 20-time grand slam champion was roundly beaten 6-3 6-4 by Russian qualifier Andrey Rublev in only 62 minutes.
Federer, who has won this event seven times before, was facing his 21-year-old competition for the first time along with also the Swiss star said he had been impressed with the strength of this Russian’s match.
“He was super clean. Defense, crime, functioning nicely,” Federer said of his opponent after the game.
“did not give anything. He was. It was hard for me personally, but an superb match by him.”

Federer eyes US Open
Regardless of the reduction, Federer said he was pleased to have come through the Cincinnati Pros injury free and has already turned his attention to the US Open later this season.

Meanwhile, Rublev will be looking to build on an impressive breakthrough year that has seen him defeat two top-five players — another being planet No. 4 Dominic Thiem.
The world. No 70 was obviously emotional after defeating Federer and will now anticipate your quarterfinal match with fellow Russian Daniil Medvedev.
“It is the largest and most emotional win,” explained Rublev, before turning his attention to praising Federer.

Murray out of US Open
Meanwhile, he three-time grand slam champion Andy Murray affirmed he won’t be taking part at this year’s US Open in the doubles because he continues his return from hip surgery.
The 32-year-old had ruled himself out of playing in the singles in Flushing Meadows but has confirmed he’ll miss the competition altogether.
“I am not going to play doubles at the US Open. My goal is to get back playing at the level I want to on the singles court, and I have determined I want to focus all my energies on this right now,” Murray told BBC Sport.
